This Laguiole pakkawood steak knife set gives you six knives, each with a different coloured pakkawood handle. Laguiole en Aubrac makes it in France with matte steel bolsters.
The handles range from sage and grey to red and warm brown, with fine layered stripes. Set out together, they look like a considered palette. You can tell guests apart by their knives.
Pakkawood is made of 70% wood and 30% resin. The maker says it keeps the warmth of wood with more resistance to heat, moisture and warping. The bolsters are matte stainless steel. The blades are 12C27 Sandvik stainless steel, which the maker says avoids corrosion. Each blade is 4.25 inches (11 cm) long, and each knife measures 9 inches (23 cm) overall. The set comes in a wooden presentation box with a certificate of authenticity. They are made in the village of Espalion, in the historic Laguiole area of France.
This is the most colourful and practical set in the range, and one of the most affordable. You might choose it for a family kitchen where knives get used every week.
