This Laguiole olive wood steak knife set has six handcrafted knives with olive wood handles and brushed steel bolsters. Laguiole en Aubrac makes them in France.
Olive wood is pale and warm, with honey and darker streaks moving through it. The brushed bolsters are soft rather than shiny. On a linen tablecloth, the whole set feels relaxed and Mediterranean.
The knives have olivewood handles, shiny stainless steel blades and brushed finish stainless steel bolsters. Each displays the traditional shepherd's cross on the handle. The blades are 12C27 Sandvik stainless steel, which the maker says avoids corrosion. Each blade is 4.25 inches (11 cm) long, and each knife measures 9 inches (23 cm) overall. The set comes in a wooden presentation box with a certificate of authenticity. They are made in the village of Espalion, in the historic Laguiole area of France.
This is the set for long lunches outdoors and relaxed dinners with friends. You can pair it with stoneware, wooden boards and a simple salad. The pale wood also looks lovely against a dark table.
