Laguiole en Aubrac Double-Plated Mammoth Molar Knife, Brown & Beige

Description

This Laguiole mammoth molar knife has a handle of ancient mammoth molar in beige, caramel and brown. Laguiole en Aubrac builds it with double-plated construction.

The bands follow the tooth's natural enamel plates, so the pattern is layered and irregular. Nothing else in the range looks quite like it. Polished bolsters and a polished blade frame the handle with a bright edge.

The handle is ancient mammoth molar, a rare material with a layered structure. Double-plated means two stainless steel plates reinforce the spring, and here the plates are hand filed. The bee and spring are forged from a single piece of stainless steel. The blade is Sandvik 12C27 stainless steel with a polished finish. The bolsters and spine are polished stainless steel. It weighs 114.8 g (4 oz). It includes a certificate of authenticity and is made in Espalion, France, within the historic Laguiole region.

This is a collector's knife first, though it is built to be carried and used. You would buy it to mark a major moment, or to begin a serious collection.
