Description

This Laguiole Balbach Damascus olive wood knife pairs a 160-layer blade by Markus Balbach with an olive wood handle. Laguiole en Aubrac builds it with double-plated construction.

The roll Damascus pattern flows across the blade in tight waves. Warm olive wood softens all that steel. Brushed bolsters and a brushed spine keep the look relaxed.

The blade was designed and manufactured by German blacksmith Markus Balbach, known for his patented DSC (Damascus SuperClean) process. It is a roll Damascus blade made of carbon with 160 layers, hardened to 61 to 63 HRC. Double-plated means two stainless steel plates reinforce the spring, and here the plates are hand filed. The bee and spring are forged from a single piece of stainless steel. The handle is olive wood. The bolsters and spine are brushed stainless steel. The blade is 4 inches (10 cm), with a 4.75 inch (12 cm) cutting edge. The knife weighs 105 g (3.73 oz). It includes a certificate of authenticity and is made in Espalion, France, within the historic Laguiole region.

It brings together German blade-making and French knife-making in one piece. You could give it to someone who already owns a Laguiole and wants the next level.
